This pictures where I'm at this week, figuratively speaking. Trying to look deeper than the pretty things of life that are right in front of me... to keep my focus on the even more beautiful things that are out beyond that. Not to get distracted by the things I can touch, to the detriment of those things for which I hope, to the detriment of my future. Not to lose sleep or waste time on things without an eternal value. Praying for wisdom and patience in challenging times and situations... for understanding and discernment for what is a distraction from the goal and what is not. I want to "take hold of that which is truly life." Riches in this life come in more forms than money... I am not rich as the world counts richness, but my life is rich and full. I want to enjoy the blessings, and yet not let the blessings of this life derail my future.
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treaure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called "knowledge," for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.I Timothy 6:17-21
